Development plan for Ved Amagerbanen Syd
København S
2015 - 2017

Eclectic with new connections

Connections from city to sea

Surrounded by a mix of former industrial buildings, an allotment society of tiny structures, and newer 7-storey owner-occupied housing blocks, the area by the north-eastern shores of Amager has a particularly eclectic feel. Spatial qualities in the old neighborhood can be found in hidden passage ways, quaint courtyards and changing scales.

The diverse group of landowners shared a vision to maintain qualities of the old industrial area while developing a new neighborhood with a mix of housing and commercial activities. They commissioned Vandkunsten Architects in 2015 to develop the masterplan and lead the process for local planning approval.

The masterplan holds our interpretation of the original scale and diversity of this corner of Amager. With deep green wedges and narrow pedestrian streets, the masterplan emphasizes the proximity to the sea and adds connections to the city.

Variety in scale and connections

While there are only a few listed buildings in the area, we have kept the feeling of the eclectic city. The plan is inspired by the diversity of scale and numerous connections within the building clusters.

Four clusters

The wedges and a new urban space at the end of Lergravsvej separate the plan in four clusters

Unique connections to Øresund

The strong connections established between the city and the sea is possible on this site at the North-eastern part of Amager. Just south, the elevated Metro blocks Amager from its coastline.
