New life on the historical industrial site

Det største, sammenhængende byudviklingsprojekt i Ribes historie

The former metal casting industry located near the center of Ribe was one of the most important industries and the industry site is located near the historical urban center.

With the factory no longer active, a new opportunity has arrived for the development of a new neighbourhood.

The plan is structurally designed as a footprint of the informal growth of the factory over a 150 year-span. New housing is inspired by the housing blocks that is a historical housing principle of Ribe, the oldest town in the country.

Vandkunsten Architects won the 2017 planning competition issued by a partnership between Esbjerg Municipality, Ribe Jernindustri and Realdania.
