We sew Brande together
From Market Town to Meeting Place
How can ‘Market Town’ become ‘Meeting Town’? A breakthrough in the urban structure is intended to create a cohesive town center across everyday life, commerce, and cultural activities. We have approached this carefully and, based on the existing qualities, created an exciting spatial sequence that allows for new activities and encounters.
We have drawn inspiration from Brande’s textile history and the fire that gave the town its name, which today is embodied in the many passionate individuals.
With the new connection – ‘The Joining’, as we have chosen to call it – the existing locations and the new urban spaces will have the opportunity to support each other.
Sammensyningen
In the new ‘The Stitching’ we want to strengthen, unite, and develop all the existing activities, communities, and potentials that the city center holds, and combine them in new ways – complementing and enhancing them with new public spaces, niches, and meeting places. Challenges with traffic, changes in terrain, and waterways should be turned around and seen as a potential – and instead used constructively to create an exciting and more lively city, with a varied sequence of different spatial experiences..
The connection should stand out as something new and special in the city. This should be achieved through a deliberate strategy in the choice of planting/trees, pavements, lighting, and spatial features, which should strengthen the identity of the connection and the continuity from Remisen in the north to Artium in the south. Along the way, in each urban and landscape space, new, space-creating elements should be added to the route, which, like pearls on a string, offer carefully crafted experiences and transitions along the way.
Byens Trappe
A special part of the Assembly is the City's Stair, which connects the Breakthrough and the City's Park. The terrain is dramatic, creating a very unique situation that allows for a truly distinctive staircase - tailor-made for the location. The staircase is designed based on the existing terrain and the two large existing trees which we believe should be preserved. The stairs wind between the trunks, and the tree canopies form a roof over the flight of stairs. When you lift your gaze, you look out over the City's Park.
New urban spaces
The new city connection not only creates new weather-protected opportunities in the new City House and the City’s Food House. The square will get better recreational spaces, and on the sunny side of the City House, the City’s Food House, and the Staircase, completely new south-facing outdoor areas with views over the river and the park below will be created.
On the south side of the City’s Food House, a sunny plaza will be created, where the qualities of the backyard are highlighted, and a new special urban space emerges: the City’s Square, which includes a covered outdoor area that can be used for communal dining, flea markets, etc. In the center of the square, the terrain is utilized, creating an amphitheater with seating along the edges. The staircase is interrupted along the way by smaller plateaus, providing space for calm recreation with a view.
