In January 2025, Vandkunsten won the Architects’ Association and Dreyer’s Foundation idea competition on Fingerplan 2.0. Since then, we have been working for a political decision regarding a revision of the current plan, as it does not address today’s – and especially future – challenges. In March, the Minister for Cities and Rural Areas invited municipalities, associations, etc., to submit ideas to the Planning and Rural Affairs Agency, and he expects to have a revision of the current Fingerplan ready in 2026.

Since January, we have presented our proposals and been in dialogue with several politicians, agencies, and associations. We have submitted consultation responses to the Minister for Cities and Rural Areas, and at the same time worked on creating a film that visualizes the key themes that need to be addressed in a Finger Plan 2.0: Water, transport, nature, housing, and urban life. And most importantly: that the many good solutions are integrated and based on a strategically coherent and holistic approach, both regionally and nationally.

The many conversations and discussions have shown us that there is both a need for a coordinated effort in the planning area and a need to develop new forms of collaboration across the state and municipalities, preferably supported by concrete legislation. So we hope the minister thinks big – not just on behalf of the capital region – but in a solution space that can be extended to all of Denmark.

Thanks to Statens Kunstfond for supporting the project and making it possible to develop and produce the film in collaboration with the film company Ohlala.
