Bataljonen

Bataljonen – new almen housing in Ringsted

The architectural task consist of creating qualities of a spacious, social and landcape character, within a very cost conscious budget. The battalion comprise 90 new housing units of varying sizes between 35 and 110 m², to house residents of different income groups; students, young adults, refugees and seniors. To accomplish a low cost for each resident there are units with many rooms which can be shared or inhabited by larger families, small units for singles or couples, low building costs and low maintenance costs.

The development is planned as two four-winged block structures, each consisting of four singular and simple blocks of 2 and 3 floors. The inner courtyards provides intimacy and identity to the development and creates a stark contrast to the surrounding area.

Low maintenance and use cost for the facade

The buildings are constructed in steel and the facades is of red shell bricks on the groundfloor with black steel panels on the second and third floor. The pitched roof is also covered with black roof panels. The materials are robust, and contributes to low monthly expenses and demands minimal maintenance.
