Team Vandkunsten wins the Generationernes Kvartershus in Hillerød
Vandkunsten, together with ABC - Consulting Engineers, has won the ideas competition for the Generationernes Kvartershus in the new district of Favrholm in Hillerød. Hillerød Municipality has now reached an agreement with Copenhagen's largest public housing association, fsb, with Vandkunsten as the lead consultant, to carry out the construction.
The Generationernes Kvartershus will consist of five buildings that blend with the surrounding nature and create great spaces for community and activities both indoors and outdoors. Here, nursing homes, public senior housing, and a daycare center come together with a wide range of different types of workshops and common meeting rooms, creating a natural and active gathering place for residents, children, and parents, while also inviting local inhabitants of the area inside.
fsb’s chairman, Mads Malik Knudsen, says: “Based on the common values of community, culture, working life, and inclusion, we develop healthy and sustainable buildings that are adapted to the needs of the future. Municipal politicians and the administration in Hillerød have ensured both community and a meeting place in the new district with Generationernes Kvartershus, and we are proud that this particular building will be our first in Hillerød Municipality.”
The mayor of Hillerød, Kirsten Jensen, says: “In our society, we have made a lot of effort to separate the generations. But the generations benefit from each other. Therefore, we will now build a meeting place for the generations at the Generationernes Kvartershus. Here there will be both a care home, daycare facilities, and what one might call a community center for the local area. The building will be located in Generationernes Kvartershus, an exciting area with new types of housing. There is a high demand for co-housing communities, and many people also want to live close to each other across generations. With Generationernes Kvartershus, we are creating an area where we can meet many of these wishes and needs. It is an exciting path to take, and I believe that the generations will benefit from each other.”
fsb will own and operate the nursing home and a co-housing community. The daycare center and the cultural areas will be owned by the municipality. The construction is expected to be completed by the turn of the year 2028-29.
The construction will have a total area of approximately 13,500 m² and will be built with wooden structures, with a focus on leaving as much of the natural ground as possible. It is a goal for the construction to achieve DGNB Gold certification.
Vandkunsten handles both the architectural and landscape architectural services itself, and we look forward to getting started on this exciting project!
